Our ‘Frequently Asked Questions’
Q. I’m having trouble downloading the show programs. Are you able to email me copies?
A. Yes, upon request I will download interested parties the show entry documents. Just contact me through the contact page and let me know what shows you wish to enter.
Q. I am once again able to ride in shows now that my small children have grown. I am an accomplished rider, and have a young horse that I would like to show, where I could compete and not pressure my young horse to canter. Can I enter the walk/trot classes?
A. The Novice Rider walk trot was primarily created to get the novice riders or shy returning riders back into the ring. If you have been out of the show pen for the 5 years as stated in the rules, you can technically enter the class, however if you are not a novice and are an accomplished rider, and your only reason for choosing the walk/trot classes is due the level your horse is at, we would suggest using the warmup classes to school your horses, were you are not judged and would be free to ride at any gait. We want to ensure that the novice riders have the best returning experience as possible, and that would include avoiding very young horses in the ring, and the opportunity to compete with similar skilled riders in the class.
Q. I am working with horses, as in guiding trail rides for pay. Does that mean that I cannot show amateur in ApHCC?
A. All of the different breed associations have their own rules on the amateur status. The best way to know for sure is to contact the association prior to the show, and better yet fill out the application and send to the association for approval. All associations have you fill out an application that includes a declaration, and this is what they use to make their decision. I will have amateur application forms at the show and can take your application, and based on your declaration you would be granted amateur status. In your particular case, its a bit of a gray zone, but I would tend to think you would qualify as although being paid, it is not in a capacity to train horses for renumeration. That being said, it is the association who has the final word and will determine whether an amateur status is accepted. ApHCC’s declaration includes a signature from 2 other current ApHCC members attesting to your amateur status. You would have to ensure that you would be able to provide this if you are applying for your card at the show.
Q. We are thinking of entering our daughter in the free Tiny Tots lead line. Will we still have to pay the office fee then on her horse?
A. Yes, all additional fees (office, stabling etc) would still be applicable and have to be paid.
